THANKSGIVING DAY FAQ
What time do you open?
Tommy's will open at 11 a.m. for dine-in service. The to-go orders window will open at 11 a.m. as well.
Is there a line to open?
Usually yes, but we are so much faster now, I think unless you have to eat at 11 a.m., there is no need to get here early and wait in line.
Do I need reservations?
No Tommy's never does reservations. We are a first come first served counter service restaurant. No worries though, you will get a table.
What time should I arrive?
We have made great improvements in speeding up the line. Now typically the longest wait for dine-in is half an hour from arrival to eating. So if you want to eat at 6 pm, you should arrive at 5:30 pm. This time could be longer or shorter though, please be flexible.
What is your Thanksgiving Day menu?
We sell only one thing, Thanksgiving dinner. It comes with Ham or Turkey, stuffing, and a choice of 2 more sides, plus bread and butter and pumpkin pie. Additions are allowed but no substitutions. Side choices are candied yams, mashed potato, turkey stuffing, green beans, and green salad. We have no other meats, nor do we have sandwiches.
How much is dinner?
$34 plus sales tax, no other fees or surcharges added to it. Draft beers are $7 a pint for local craft beers, we have a few bottles and cans to choose from at $5 each, and our cocktails start at $5, wine is $4.50 a glass. Bar prices are cash prices, there is a credit card fee at the bar of 5%.
Are you cash only?
No. We take all forms of credit card payments, tap payments, and such. No added Credit Card Fees except at the bar.
What time do you close?
Tommy’s will close when we run out of food or at 8 pm whichever comes sooner. The last person allowed in line for dine-in will be at 7 p.m.
The last person in line is at 7 p.m. but you close at 8 p.m.?
We will allow enough time for the last person in line to get food and enjoy their time eating and drinking, so yes we close at 8 p.m. but we will provide service to everyone that got in the line up to that point until they are happy. Usually, we are done around 9 p.m.
What if I want to drink at the bar only?
Sorry, there is no bar seating on Thanksgiving. Everyone entering Tommy's on Thanksgiving Day will be charged the minimum dinner price.
Is the bar open?
Yes, it is open for dinners, the bartenders will serve you at your tables.
can I bring my own wine?
Yes you can. The wine fee is $10 per bottle.
can my vegan friend bring his own food to dine with us?
Yes you can. The fee for eating any outside food is $15. The fee for outside drinks is $2.
What if I don't want to eat, but want to sit with my friends and family?
Sorry, due to limited seating, all guests will be charged a minimum dinner price to enter Tommy's on Thanksgiving.
But I am vegetarian?
We have a vegetarian dinner option, but no special vegetarian dish. The vegetarian plate is 4 sides of your choice plus bread and dessert.
But I am a child, is there a children’s dinner?
Sorry no, there is only one size dinner, children 5 and older will be charged the dinner price to enter.
What about the to-go window, when does that close?
The to-go window will stay open also while supplies last or until 5 p.m. The last person in line will be at 5 p.m.
What is the to-go window?
The to-go orders window is a separate line where you can order individual Turkey dinners packaged to go.
What is the wait time at the to-go window?
We added this because to-go orders take longer to fill than dine-in orders, and slowed down the dine-in line a lot. Now in its 8th year, it has become almost as popular as our dine-in service. We are adding staff to this service to speed up this line. Our goal is to make this a fast process, maybe 20 minutes in line to order tops. To do that we are limiting the number of options at the to go window. Please plan ahead as the wait times could be longer as demand is very high.
The to-go orders window menu is:
Turkey or ham dinner with stuffing, mashed potatoes, and 1 more side, plus bread and butter and pumpkin pie. Side choices are: candied sweet potatoes or green salad with ranch or red wine vinaigrette.
Can I substitute other sides for stuffing or mashed potato?
Sorry no, the dinners are prepackaged for speed. The only option is turkey or ham with stuffing, mashed potato, and 1 more side you choose.
Can I get other things at the to-go window?
Yes. A la cart items include: Turkey legs with gravy, extra bread and butter, extra gravy, carved turkey or ham sold by 2-pound pre-package. individual sides available: stuffing, mashed potato, candied yams, green salad.
What if I want something else to go?
Sorry, this year we are only allowing dine-in customers to enter and order. There are no other options for to-go orders. This is to keep all the lines moving fast.
Can I preorder individual dinners to go?
Sorry no, we are only taking large orders as preorders this year.
Will you run out of food?
This is a possibility. We have had enough food the last few years and if all things go well we will have plenty this year too. We sometimes run out of an item or two, we constantly cook everything fresh and by hand. There is a cook mixing gravy and mashing potatoes all day long.
Where can I park?
There is limited street parking. The closest parking garages are at the now-closed CVG Movie Theater (old AMC) at O’Farrell and Van Ness, there are two garages on Post on either side of Van Ness.
Will you do delivery on Thanksgiving?
Sorry, we will not offer delivery on Thanksgiving, nor through any delivery app.
